The information that you will need to provide, if you wish to post to the Estherville Police Messsage Board, is located under "Add to Guestbook" on the right side of the Message Board.
You are required to provide your name in the "Your Name" cell.
You are required to enter a working email address in the "E-mail" cell. This will make it possible for us contact you to verify the post.
When you enter an E-mail address, you may click the "Hide e-mail" button. This will prevent your email address from being viewed by the public.
If you have a web site you may enter the site's internet address in the "URL" cell. It will be viewable by the public and will appear as a clickable hyper-link (allowing the public to click on the link and go directly to your web site.)
You are encouraged to enter your City and State in the "Location" cell.
Type your message in the cell "Comments."
If you wish to display a photo or other graphic with your message, you will need to insert the code for the photo in the "Comments" cell as well. There are, however, a couple of things that you must do to facilitate this.
When uploading photos, be sure you optimize them for the web before you upload. This will greatly reduce both the physical size and the file size of the photos. Keep the file size between 60K and 80K or less. Keep the physical size 600 pixels x 600 pixels or smaller. If you do not have graphics-handling software, you can now do this using Photoshop Express. You must use a specific code in your message or the photo will not appear. The code is <IMG SRC="put the address of your art
here"> so that it looks something like the following, with your domain address (shown below in red) and name of your graphic (shown below in blue) changed, of course. <IMG SRC="http://www.yourdomainname.com/mygraphic.jpg"> ... the forward slash after your domain name is required.
Upload your photo or other graphic to a web server. This must be a server that is available to the public, such as the server where your own website is stored. Note though that "free" servers (like Geocities and Tripod) usually do not permit linking to individual files. If you have an important graphic but have no server for storing it, consider emailing the optimized graphic to our Webmaster. Once received, he will be able to upload the graphic to the E.P.D. server and add the link that will add your photo (discussed above) to your message on the E.P.D. Message Board. Do not use any graphic which does not belong to you. That is theft.
Enter the numbers that you see next to "Anti-bot protection". They are hard to read sometimes, but you get additional chances to get it right.
Click the "Preview" button if you want to see what your post will look like, and continue to edit your post until it shows what you want to have posted.
Finally, click the "Post" button. Our moderator will examine the post to be certain that it is appropriate and positive and supports the mission of the Estherville Police Department.
